The following article series provides an overview of how a screen reader user would interact with CarmenConnect. Participants, see Attending as a Participant for instructions.
Attending as a Presenter/ Host
In order to share the screen through the Share Pod and promote Participants to Presenters through the Attendees Pod, Presenters / Hosts must use the Connect Add-in. However, while Presenters can share their screen and applications (PowerPoint, for example), they cannot use the Chat Pod since the Add-in does not support screen reader access to the Chat list. Presenters / Hosts will also have limited access to some other controls.
As a recommended practice, a JAWS-reliant presenter should be assigned a moderator who can read back to the presenter the chat contents. Alternatively, the presenter could require that all communications with participants be through the Connect audio/VOIP connection.
For more information, see the following articles: Running a Powerpoint Presentation Through the Share Pod, Using the Closed Captioning Pod and Promoting a Participant to Presenter.
Note on Real-Time Captioning: Presenters / Hosts may download the Closed Captioning Pod from the Adobe website. Currently, there is no official Ohio State service available for real-time closed captioning.
Real-time captioning can be provided for sessions that have attendees who are registered with the Office for Disability Services (ODS) and who require the accommodation. Hosts should arrange with ODS well in advance of the CarmenConnect session to schedule real-time captioning. Hosts are recommended to contact ODS at email@example.com, with the subject aCarmenConnect captioning requesta.

The Closed Captioning Pod does not work with the Adobe Connect Mobile app. Users who need streaming captions should attend the meeting via a laptop or desktop computer. If needed, Presenters or Hosts may use the Notes pod for streaming text on mobile devices. However, please note that this work-around is limited. Participants will not be able to pause or adjust contrast through the Notes pod.
