BuckeyeBox is Ohio State's supported file storage and collaboration tool. BuckeyeBox lets you consolidate your content in a single location, easily accessible by students from anywhere, on almost any device.
Withn BuckeyeBox, you can create files and folders, share them using a direct link, invite colleagues and classmates to collaborate, and continue to revise and review your content.
Integrating BuckeyeBox into your CarmenCanvas course provides greater opportunities for classroom sharing and collaboration. It can help you easily store large files and share them with the entire class.
The BuckeyeBox integration allows you to post links directly in areas such as Modules, Pages, Assignments, and Quizzes. This makes your life easier and reduces ambiguity for students.
If set up correctly in Carmen, students will not need to log in to BuckeyeBox to view content, which means they can access your material even if they have not activated their BuckeyeBox account.

Using BuckeyeBox with CarmenCanvas
There are a number of ways to integrate and share Box files in your Carmen course.
- Box integrations within CarmenCanvas. There are two:
- Rich Content Editor
- Using the External Tool option in Assignments and Modules
- Box share URL
What you want your students to do with the files determines how you should share them in your course. This is especially important for students accessing PDF files on iPads.
Do you or your students just need to read the PDF? You can link through the Carmen integration or from the Box share URL. Both ways will allow students to read the file but will not allow iPad users to download the file. Note that the Carmen integration option creates a preview pop-up window that will not save the student's place when it closes. This matters if it's a long document.
Do you want students to be able to save the PDF to their device? Do not use the Carmen integration. To allow students to save to the "Files," you should link using the Box share URL.
Do you want students to be able to open the PDF in Notability or another iPad app? If so, provide the share URL from Box and they can choose between the two options. If they download from the preview screen, they can then export to another app. If they open it in the Box app, they have the most options.
In most cases, we recommend using the Box share URL option, unless you do not want students to download PDF files.
Using the Box Share URL
Sharing files using the Box "share to anyone with a link" URL, will allow the largest number of students, including those with iPads, to view and download PDF files.
To share files using the Box share URL:
From within BuckeyeBox, locate the desired file.
Click on Share.
From the drop-down menu options, select People with the link.
Click Copy to share the URL with your students.
The PDF file using the share to People with the Link setting in BuckeyBox allows students with iPads to:
Open in App button at the top right. This allows students to open the link in the app if the app is on their device.
Download arrow with a line at the bottom. This will trigger a true download. Once the PDF opens, students will need to send it where they want it to be, for instance in Notability.
CarmenCanvas Box Integration
If you use the CarmenCanvas Box integration, students using mobile devices are unable to download BuckeyBox files.
With the Carmen Box integration, the iPad uses a browser preview window rather than a full functioning browser. When students try to tap the download button in the upper right corner, it appears to be selected but does nothing.
By sharing your course files using the Box "share to anyone with a link" URL (directions above) rather than the Carmen Box integration, it will allow mobile users to view and download PDF files.
