The Participation widget on the Carmen landing page is intended to make completing the required participation roster easier.
You can select an assignment for each of your active courses to be submitted to the Registrar. This will automatically update your participation roster in the Faculty Center.

Compatible Assignment Types
The participation widget works with the following Canvas published assignment types:
Online assignment types EXCEPT for External Tools
No submission -- Grades must be present in gradebook to be detected
On paper -- Grades must be present in gradebook to be detected
Top Hat -- Grades must be present in gradebook to be detected
An additional note on no submission/on paper assignment types: Canvas assigns students the "graded" status used by the Participation Roster if a student has ever received a grade for the chosen assignment.
If a student receives a grade in error and the instructor removes that grade, the student will still appear to have received a grade in the participation roster. This can be changed in the Faculty Center if the deadline has not passed.
Incompatible Assignment Types
Transfer Participation to Faculty Center
Log-in to carmen.osu.edu
Click on Participation
From the drop-down menu select the desired assignment
Assignments dated within the first two weeks of the term or those with no dates will appear in the drop-down menu.
Click Set Participation Activity
If fewer than 50% of students have completed the assignment it will not transfer to the Faculty Center.
As long as the deadline has not passed, you are able to change the selected assignment. If the deadline for the participation roster has passed, you will receive the message: "Participation Roster No Longer Available."
Students' completion of the selected assignment will be pushed to the Registrar automatically just before the deadline.
